Bump, Birth & Beyond – Signature Hypnobirthing Antenatal & Postnatal Course

In Southend with Steph.

Our comprehensive group course will give you access to all the knowledge and techniques needed for a birth that leaves you feeling in awe of yourself. The postnatal focus will ensure you have all the info you need to settle into parenthood with confidence in your abilities, and realistic expectations of yourselves, your newborn and your support network. There’s even an ‘Ask the Midwife’ session with registered midwife Clair (who works locally for the NHS and independently at In The Club Midwifery) allowing you to ask any questions you have about you bump, birth or beyond in an informal setting.

The price includes – 15 hours of teaching time with Steph. An ‘Ask the Midwife’ and infant feeding session with Clair. The Calm Birth Method book, MP3s for building confidence and relaxation. Detailed digital course notes emailed to you at the end of each session, plus a workbook for use during the course. Unlimited support before, (during, if you need it) and after the birth. A bag of gorgeous goodies for you and your babe. Plus exclusive BONUS content from specially selected partners to add to your information bank and connect you to relevant service providers if you feel you need further support in a specific area. The course covers – everything you need to prepare for your new role as parents, here’s what you can expect from each session. Some content will be included as video bonuses for you to watch at your leisure – this will be sent by email at the end of each session along with the notes.

Session One – Introduction

  • A chance for us to get to know one another, and for you to build the all important connections with other parents about to embark on the same journey as you
  • Caring for your body during pregnancy – exercise, nutrition and birth specific techniques to keep yourself comfortable and healthy throughout
  • Preparing your baby – a look at optimal positioning, and why your birth ball should be your fave seat for now
  • A look at birth culture past and present so you can see how we have got to where we are today, and why there is so much work for us to do in the next session!

 

Session Two – Hypnobirthing and Birth Run Through

  • What hypnosis is, how it works and why it works – a tool for reprogramming and relaxation
  • The mind body connection further explored- our mammalian processes and how this differs for men and women in the birth room
  • The impact of observation
  • The power of words and what to do about it
  • The uterus- how it works
  • The fear-tension- pain cycle
  • The hormones of labour and how to tip the balance in your favour
  • Three soothing massage techniques
  • Three distinct breathing techniques- for relaxation, for during labour, for the pushing stage
  • Positions for optimal progress in labour
  • Visualisation- why and how
  • Affirmations- unlocking the power of your thinking patterns and perspective
  • Dial down method for grounding
  • Dealing with distractions
  • Practical and emotional tools for the birth partner to rock their role
  • Labour run through – what to expect & what to do at different points
  • When to call the midwife
  • Listening to your body during baby’s descent
  • Considerations for the moment when you meet your baby
  • Common worries around meeting your baby (‘is it safe for my baby to be born under water?’ ‘what if the cord is around their neck?’
  • The golden hour- the evidence and your options

 

Session Three – Choice and Intervention 

  • Place of birth – your options, the evidence, and how to optimise any location
  • Intervention – length of pregnancy & pre-labour interventions (sweeps & inductions), during labour (augmentation of labour, continuous monitoring, assisted deliveries, pain relief)
  • Optimising C-section for you and baby
  • Making solid decisions & confidence
  • Birthing the placenta, and what (if anything!) to do with it after
  • The umbilical cord – when and how to cut it, the options and evidence
  • Vitamin K
  • Birth preferences – template provided

 

Session Four – ‘Ask the Midwife’ and Postnatal Prep

  • There are no silly questions for our resident midwife Clair, so fire away
  • Infant feeding with Clair – breast, bottle or both. Informed and supported is our approach
  • What to expect, and caring for yourself after birth (vaginal and c-section birth recovery tips)
  • What to expect, and caring for your baby after birth (normal newborn behaviour, safe sleep, nappies, washing and dressing)
  • Fourth trimester – what is it, how to survive it, how to prepare for it
  • Parental emotional wellbeing
  • Setting expectations for family and friends
